Sperminated; or, R&R

Having an IUI done on a Saturday morning is infinitely preferable to a Tuesday. Instead counting the minutes as they slipped past (each one taking me closer to another canceled class) or watching Lawyer Guy obsessively responding to work e-mails on his Blackberry, we were able to stroll in, have him do his thang, have a lovely early breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien, get a vial full of sperm injected in my cooter, and return home.

There was less hilarity but also less stress this time around. LG produced the sample without trouble--and what a sample it was! 95 million and 50% motility pre-wash, and 92 million with 90% motility post-wash! We couldn't believe the numbers were right when we saw the sheet, because that is such a jump from his usual 30-35 million. But we'll take it!

I let down the side a bit on my end. Yesterday at triggering I still only had one 19mm follie on the left. My lining was better this time, though, at 10mm. Still, I don't have high hopes for the outcome. One egg, one shot. Plus, I really don't think it's possible for us to have a positive result on every IUI cycle. Since we technically did have a positive beta last time, I'm going to write this one off ahead of time as a necessary loss.

LG and I had some interesting and important conversations about our future that I'll share at some other point. Nothing earthshattering was discussed or decided, but the way we talking about it all gave me confidence that we are as solid a team as I've told myself.

Now we're lying in bed with our puppy and a crossword puzzle. We've scheduled an afternoon of lounging and napping (and maybe even some grading for me) and are discussing dinner and movie options for tonight. I love my husband and I love our life together, whatever comes of this morning's adventures in medically-assisted reproduction.

  2. I was also a fan of the Saturday IUIs. So much less stressful. Le Pain Quotidien is one of my favorite places to eat breakfast. Those sugar waffles...

And wow, that was really a superstar sample! I don't think you let the side down -- people get pregnant with one good follicle all the time. That said, I think it's healthy to have grounded expectations. It makes the 2ww so much more bearable. Well, as bearable as it can be, because it's always hard, no matter what events did or did not lead up to it.

  3. Dude! Those are fantastic numbers!!!!!!!!! I hate to be a buzz kill on your totally understandable self-defense coping mechanism (ie: "I'm going to write this one off ahead of time as a necessary loss"), but I AM FILLED WITH HOPE FOR THIS CYCLE! There, I said it. Way to rock it LG, and may that 19mm beautiful follie hold your golden egg. xoxo

  4. Go, LG, go! That's an AWESOME count! I have SUCH good feelings about this, Sloper! You only need one. Egg only had one and now look: TWINS! It can happen. Thinking of you! Xo

  5. I love the calm you're exuding. And you're absolutely right: whatever happens this cycle, you're clearly doing it with the right guy. Mazel tov to all on the studliness of the sample, and may the outcome be a delightful surprise.

  6. Holy super sperm!! Is your hubs taking anything
? If so, please share!! I am wishing and hoping for you with this cycle.

I just went through my IUI 2ww with ease and truly not thinking about it (the best I could) and it was the best 2ww I've ever had, regardless of the outcome.

So I hope for ease and a relaxing 2ww for you!!

  7. Thank you so much for using the word "cooter." No blog is complete without it, really. That is fantastic news on the sperm count front! I will not be excited, just guardedly optimistic. I'm glad you and LG had some good conversation time too.

  8. Fantastic! You guys are doing all you can, including taking care of yourselves, and I'm glad that is bringing you the mental relief and peace that you deserve. Crazy is bound to set in in a week or so,but I am glad you are getting a well-earned respite. And I KNOW you know that the fate of this cycle has nothing to do with what happened last cycle. I'm happy for you guys, and this does feel like moving forwards. The goal is firmly within sight,I am convinced.

  9. I wish we could all do our treatmnets on the weekends or be able to quit our jobs so that we can have the kind of calm experinece that you guys did. Funny about LPQ, we went there for breakfast for our 3 IUI's this summer while they were washing and preparing the sample for us :)
wishing you so much luck in the 2ww!!!!!!!!!!

  10. those are some awesome awesome numbers that LG posted yesterday!! with iui's, i'm convinced the sperm counts more than the egg. it seems like the cycles that don't seem the most ideal are the ones that produce that elusive sticky BFP, so even though there's *only* one egg (in your words ... in mine, that's all you need!!), i'm feeling good for you. one of these cycles is going to be *the* one. this one sounds great, so hang in there :o) xoxo.

  15. Yay for those numbers! And a relaxed day with breakfast in between sounds so much better indeed. Hoping that this is the one follicle that will bring you a baby.

  16. That sounds...almost enjoyable! I agree with you about IUI on a Saturday. So preferable. None of that rushing around (not very conducive to Zen). That's wonderful about the numbers. Hoping this eggie is the magic one.

  17. I love the idea of a Saturday IUI with a breakfast break. I'm on track for a Saturday or Sunday IUI this weekend...I think I might suggest a relaxing breakfast in between to the hubby.

I just stumbled on your blog from Good Egg and love it. I'm on the UES (also baby/stroller land like Park Slope), so I can relate.

Good luck this cycle - your numbers are great!

  20. Go LG!!! Those are some very awesome numbers!! And I couldn't agree more about weekend IUIs. The work days were the worst, stressing about getting back to work, since it always took like two hours...totally kills that zen-ness I was going for afterwards. So fingers crossed this timing was meant to be!!
